The First Drop — How the Naruto Capsule Took 6 Months to Get Right
People ask why we charge what we charge. The honest answer: most of it goes back into making sure the tee you receive doesn't fade after three washes. Here's what the first six months looked like.
**Month 1–2: Fabric.**
We sampled fabric from twelve mills across Tirupur, Ludhiana, and Ahmedabad. The brief was simple: 240 GSM minimum, 100% combed cotton, bio-washed for that broken-in feel from day one. Most mills hit two of the three. One mill nailed all three but couldn't deliver under 4 weeks. We picked the mill that could.
The cotton had to feel a specific way — soft enough to wear straight from the box, structured enough to hold the dropped-shoulder silhouette. Anything lighter than 240 GSM hangs limp; anything heavier feels like a sweatshirt in May.
**Month 3: Print.**
This was the hardest part. We tested:
- DTG (direct-to-garment) — too soft, prints crack at the seams within 20 washes.
- Sublimation — only works on polyester. Polyester is a no-go for our fabric standard.
- Heat transfer — the cheap version of screen printing. Lifts at the edges after a year.
- Screen printing — the gold standard. Hand-pulled, ink fully bonds with the cotton. Lasts 50+ washes if done right.
We picked screen printing. We then went through three printers before finding one in Ahmedabad who understood that "vibrant" doesn't have to mean "shiny." Anime prints have to read flat, almost matte, like manga panels — that took the printer two weeks to dial in.
**Month 4: Design.**
Our illustrator drew the Naruto capsule from scratch. No tracing, no ripping off official merch. Original interpretations of poses, color palettes, and panel layouts — done in his own style. Every design went through 4–5 rounds of revision. Some never made it.
**Month 5: Sampling.**
We made 30 samples across all sizes. We wore them ourselves for a month. We washed them — hot water, cold water, with denim, separately, in the machine, by hand. Then we washed them again. The prints held. The cotton softened beautifully without losing structure.
**Month 6: Launch.**
12 designs. 200 pieces per design. 2,400 tees total — every single one inspected before it shipped.
That's why a tee from us costs ₹1,200. That's also why it's still going to look the same 3 years from now.
